Step One Charity has been supporting people in Devon with their mental health and wellbeing for over 85 years, working closely with local NHS Trusts, GP surgeries and communities.
Record numbers of people across Devon are seeking support for their mental health, and at BeWell@StepOne, we use our specialist knowledge of mental health service provision to meet some of that demand through our online and in-person courses, support groups and activities. We help people in need of mental health support to manage their own wellbeing and, through peer groups, support others in their communities.
Available to people aged 18 and over living in Devon, our sessions are free and are run by professional, qualified and supportive tutors with lived experience of mental health conditions.
Please find below the sessions currently available for enrolment. You will need to create an account on this site to register yourself, though please note that availability on each course is limited.

This two-hour online workshop explores the power of connection and how nurturing relationships can support mental wellbeing. Through interactive discussions, practical exercises, and self-reflection, you’ll discover strategies for forming and sustaining meaningful connections, building personal support networks, and engaging with your local community.
The workshop will also introduce a variety of local and regional opportunities for connection, including directory apps that provide easy access to social activities and community resources. These tools empower you to find opportunities that match your interests and needs.
Ideal for anyone looking to strengthen relationships, expand their support network, and feel more connected to others and their community.

With constant notifications, screen time pressures, and always-on communication, it’s easy to feel digitally drained or overwhelmed. Digital wellbeing offers practical ways to create healthier tech habits, regain balance, and feel more in control of your online life.
This two-hour online workshop provides a supportive space to explore simple, evidence-informed strategies for managing screen time, improving focus, and cultivating mindful digital use. Through guided reflections, practical tools, and group discussions, you’ll also discover how technology can be harnessed positively from digital tools that support wellbeing to ways tech can help us connect, learn, and make a meaningful impact.
You’ll have the chance to connect with others, share experiences, and learn from collective insights.
Ideal for anyone looking to reset their digital habits or reduce tech-related stress, this workshop provides practical guidance to help you navigate the online world with greater clarity, balance, and a renewed appreciation for how tech can genuinely support wellbeing.

Understand your emotions and regain control with confidence.
Anger is a natural and human emotion, but when it starts to feel overwhelming or hard to express safely, it can affect our relationships, health, and wellbeing. This four-week course provides a supportive space to explore what lies beneath your anger and learn how to respond rather than react.
Together, we’ll look at the triggers and cycles of anger, identify the thoughts and feelings that drive it, and develop practical techniques to manage anger in a healthy, controlled way. The aim isn’t to eliminate anger altogether, but to help you express it more constructively, communicate more clearly, and improve emotional balance.
Guided by our experienced wellbeing practitioners, you’ll gain insight into yourself, build new coping strategies, and leave with a renewed sense of control and confidence.
The course involves attending 4 weekly 2 hr sessions each running from 10.30am - 12.30pm.
Course dates: February 4th, 11th, 18th, 25th
Venue: online via ZOOM.

This two-hour online workshop offers a supportive space to explore how your inner dialogue affects your confidence, mood, and wellbeing. Together, we’ll identify unhelpful patterns of negative self-talk and learn practical strategies to reframe these thoughts into more constructive, encouraging messages.
You’ll also have the opportunity to connect with others, share experiences, and gain reassurance through peer support.
Ideal for anyone looking to build a healthier, more balanced relationship with their inner voice and develop a more positive mindset.
